‘I would have taken that’ – Cameron on Olympic hopes

The prime minister was in the same mood as he and his fellow Britons when he was awarded the gold medal at the Rio Olympics in August.

The nation’s sporting spirit has always been there, and I think it’s because we’re the only country on Earth with the Olympics.

But it’s important to remember that, while we have the Games, there’s a lot of work to be done.

I’m proud of our country and our people and I’m sure that’s something that will come out in the years to come.

I would have loved to be in Rio, but I think we’re still very much on track to achieve the Olympics and the Paralympics.

The BBC Sport Personality of the Year will be announced on Tuesday.
